His research interests include characterization and treatment of joint articulation in aging and disease states, physiologic responses to long-duration space flight and correlating mechanical properties of tendon, meniscus and cartilage with reference radiographic techniques such as UTE MRI.

Robert Healey is a biomedical engineer working with the UCSD departments of Orthopaedic Surgery and Radiology. During his 20 years as a research associate, he has specialized in biomechanical testing design as well as project data management.
