Image Registration

Clinical Challenge

For patients getting multiple MR scanning of the same joint, it is difficult to image the same region every time. From routine evaluation to post-surgical follow-up, having the ability to monitor the same region is crucial.

Technical Approach

We use a technique called 3D spatial registration to match up the images taken at different times.

Initial visit

Image from the first session.

Follow-up Visit

This image from the subsequent scan does not match up exactly with the initial scan.

3D registration is performed to align the two sets of images.  This makes comparison and analysis of longitudinal (time-series) data more robust and accurate.
