Research

Dr. Bae's research spans from basic research such as validation of novel MR techniques using biomechanical and biochemical reference standards, to application of the techniques to in vivo models and patients. His areas of study include: Ultrashort time-to-echo (UTE) MR techniques to evaluate Intervertebral disc and discovertebral junction, as well as understanding structure, composition and function relationship of biologic tissues.

Curriculum Vitae

Biosketch

Won Bae, PhD, is an assistant professor of radiology at UCSD and a co-principal investigator of MSK Lab.  As a trained Bioengineer, he directs the lab on studies requiring scientific design, and engineering expertise (software and hardware). He has a PhD and a teaching fellowiship in Bioengineering in the field of cartilage biomechanics, as well as a postdoctoral fellowship in Radiology. He is an established health science researcher, having received numerous awards (F32, K01, R01) from the National Institutes of Health, as well as private sponsors (Arthritis Foundation, General Electric). His research interest includes early diagnosis and pathogenesis of MSK diseases, including disc-related back pain and osteoarthritis.
