Clinical

Dr. Chen has a special interest in rheumatologic conditions and has been using ultrasound in the early diagnosis of various rheumatologic conditions, particularly gout, rheumatoid arthritis and calcium pyrophosphate deposition disease. Dr. Chen organizes the quarterly interdepartmental conferences between the radiology and rheumatology departments at UCSD.

Karen C. Chen, MD is a musculoskeletal radiologist. Dr. Chen completed her medicine internship and radiology residency at Brown University. She finished her musculoskeletal radiology fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania.

Research

Her current clinical and research interests also include nerve entrapment syndromes of the appendicular skeleton, imaging of the discovertebral junction and bone with MRI and microCT in health and disease.

Dr. Chen’s professional expertise also focuses on musculoskeletal interventions under fluoroscopic, CT and ultrasound guidance.
